yekaterinburg s church on blood built on spot last tsar , family executed.


on september 20 [o.s. september 7] 1990, sverdlovsk soviet handed plot russian orthodox church construction of memorial chapel. after former tsar , family s canonisation passion bearers, church planned build impressive memorial complex dedicated romanov family. state commission gathered , architectural funding plans developed. construction began in 2000.


the completed complex comprises 2 churches, belfry, patriarchal annex, , museum dedicated former imperial family; altar of main church directly on site of romanovs execution. complex covers total of 29,700 square feet (2,760 m).


on june 16 [o.s. june 3] 2003, 85 years after execution of former imperial family, main church consecrated metropolitan bishop yuvenaly, delegated patriarch alexy ii ill @ time travel yekaterinburg, assisted russian orthodox clergy on russian federation. in 2003, president vladimir putin , german chancellor gerhard schroeder met in yekaterinburg , visited church.
