Side effects Bicalutamide

the side effect profile of bicalutamide highly dependent on sex; is, on whether person male or female. in men, due androgen deprivation, variety of side effects of varying severity may occur during bicalutamide treatment, breast pain/tenderness , gynecomastia (breast development/enlargement) being common. in addition breast changes, physical feminization , demasculinization in general, including reduced body hair growth, decreased muscle mass , strength, feminine changes in fat mass , distribution, , reduced penile length, may occur in men. other side effects have been observed in men , related androgen deprivation include hot flashes, sexual dysfunction (e.g., loss of libido, erectile dysfunction), depression, fatigue, weakness, anemia, , decreased semen/ejaculate volume. in women, on other hand, due little biological importance of androgens in sex, side effects of pure antiandrogens or nsaas minimal, , bicalutamide has been found well-tolerated. general side effects of bicalutamide may occur in either sex include diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea, dry skin, itching, , rash. drug well-tolerated @ higher dosages 50 mg/day dosage, rare additional side effects.

bicalutamide monotherapy has been associated abnormal liver function tests such elevated liver enzymes in 3.4% of men relative 1.9% standard care. hepatic changes such marked increases in liver enzymes or hepatitis necessitated discontinuation of bicalutamide have occurred in approximately 0.3 1% of men in clinical trials. monitoring of liver function during treatment recommended, particularly in first few months. in men of advanced age prostate cancer, bicalutamide monotherapy has been associated increase in non-prostate cancer mortality, in part due increase in rate of heart failure. these mortality-related effects thought consequence of androgen deprivation, rather specific drug-related toxicity of bicalutamide.

five cases of hepatotoxicity or liver failure, 2 of resulted in death, have been reported bicalutamide. symptoms may indicate liver dysfunction include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, anorexia, flu-like symptoms, dark urine, , jaundice. bicalutamide has been associated several case reports of interstitial pneumonitis, can potentially progress pulmonary fibrosis. symptoms may indicate lung dysfunction include dyspnea (difficult breathing or shortness of breath), cough, , pharyngitis (inflammation of pharynx, resulting in sore throat). both hepatotoxicity , interstitial pneumonitis said extremely rare events bicalutamide. few cases of photosensitivity have been reported bicalutamide. hypersensitivity reactions (drug allergy) angioedema , hives have uncommonly been reported in association bicalutamide. because antiandrogen, bicalutamide has theoretical risk of birth defects ambiguous genitalia , brain feminization in male fetuses.
