origin (1996–2002)

jacques chin alcantara founded band in late 1996. chin s elder brother, julius, gave band name tribute departed mother, cardiologist dr. stella lopez-alcantara, died of complications breast cancer.

as college band, m.y.m.p. appeared in college fairs , shows, encountered difficulty in lining gigs due disciplined rock repertoire. m.y.m.p. added keyboardist , began working on more pop sound, completing transformation addition in 2000 of female vocalist, marifil niña girado, known nina. left band go solo. m.y.m.p. performed in bars, clubs , shows years, building identity.

their recording career started when raymond ryan, station manager of ifm, watched gig. ryan met producer produce debut album, soulful acoustic. ivory records became recording company. m.y.m.p. s debut album released on ivory music , video s 20th anniversary. band became famous original hit song little bit (which won people s choice favorite song award in awit awards 2004) , cover versions of sting s every little thing , bob marley s waiting in vain .

the trio did click m.y.m.p. became duo when 1 of members decided leave group. manahan left band in 2003 due alcantara called “professional differences” fallout manahan’s breakup fernandez; 2 in relationship while. yet, did not stop m.y.m.p. s juris & chin sharing music.

now backed keyboardist edward oja jimenez, percussionist dexter john angeles , bassist aimiel rivas, m.y.m.p. embarked on ambitious career step yet: summer tour of west , east coasts, development excited alcantara , fernandez immensely.

departure of juris fernandez, new label , lineup changes (2009–2010)

m.y.m.p. ended 2008 2 other bands in philippine music scene, side , freestyle , took center stage @ back2back2back concert @ araneta coliseum on december 1.

in 2009, m.y.m.p. regularly seen every sunday on asap s sessionistas segment soul siren nina, crooner richard poon, bossa artist sitti navarro, ex-southborder vocalist duncan ramos , singer aiza seguerra.

sometime in mid-2009, speculations fernandez , alcantara having issues caught media attention when alcantara silently pulled out segment of abs-cbn s sunday variety show asap called sessionistas , leaving fernandez giving solo performances. rumors intensified when band failed attend first-ever philippine movie press club music awards in group won best duo/group.

the group had been silent until official announcement released @ manila bulletin entertainment on november 5, 2009, confirming juris fernandez leaving m.y.m.p. said in statement parting ways due irreconcilable professional differences . however, since working on album when breakup happened, said work finish 5 songs had recorded, although outcome not released m.y.m.p s, fernandez s solo album alcantara producer.

on january 24, 2010, juliet bahala introduced new vocalist of m.y.m.p. on asap. bahala, 18-year-old regional singing champ, hailed davao juris fernandez came from. sang on m.y.m.p. s sixth album unreleased acoustic collection released in may 2011. during promotion of album, bahala suffered severe vocal fatigue, laryngitis , vocal nodules forced rest indefinitely. in davao hometown pursuing classical roots. temporarily replaced vanessa rangadhol 2012 2013.

mymp management held grand audition female vocalist after , chose jana laraza new singer.

mymp set release 10th anniversary album under polyeast emi-galaxy records in february 2014 jana laraza on vocals. started singing professionally late 2009 only, influences marsha ambrosius, vivian green, lalah hathaway, julliane, floetry etc.

2011–present

m.y.m.p. released sixth studio album, unreleased acoustic collection, in may 2011. band signed new recording label, polyeast emi-galaxy records, , continues shows around philippines , abroad. releasing 10th anniversary album electrified on february 2014 jana on vocals.
