braga

born in vila nova de famalicão, braga district, quim started career @ s.c. braga.


he played first game in primeira liga during 1994–95 season, becoming club s undisputed first-choice in following years.


benfica

quim moved s.l. benfica in 2004 , was, @ first, intermittent in keeping goalkeeper spot @ new club, having shared goal josé moreira in title-winning 2004–05 campaign. next season started first-choice, injury him moreira saw marcelo moretto being signed during winter break, controversially earning place in starting eleven.


quim s fortunes turned around @ beginning of 2006–07 season, new coach fernando santos announced former braga player first goalkeeper. subsequently, latter put in bad performance since regaining first-choice status, when manager dismissed following campaign.


in 2008–09, benfica retaining same 3 goalkeepers under quique sánchez flores, quim started campaign, lost job moreira in between, demoted third-choice (with moretto starting in domestic league cup) , finished again starter, team finishing third. started final of latter competition, , saved 3 penalty shoot-out attempts against sporting clube de portugal win.


braga return

in 2009–10 season, quim played matches , minutes benfica won league first time in 5 years, adding honour of being keeper least conceded goals (20). @ end of june 2010, however, 34-year-old released, returning first professional club braga on three-year deal, spent first year on sidelines nursing achilles tendon injury.


quim returned first-choice 2011–12, helping braga third place subsequent qualification uefa champions league. however, after arrival of beto fc porto following campaign, featured in 6 official contests in first part, including once in league against s.c. beira-mar , 1–2 champions league home loss galatasaray sk.


after beto left sevilla fc in january 2013 quim reinstated starter, 1 of first appearances being 0–0 home draw against former club benfica in portuguese league cup semi-finals, won in penalty shootout. manager josé peseiro selected him competition s decider against porto, penalty alan signified game s goal , braga s first trophy win in 47 years.


later years

in may 2013, @ 38 years of age, quim announced not renew contract braga , subsequently retire after 19 years professional – played last match on 11th against c.d. nacional, 1–3 home loss 382nd game in portuguese top division. however, 2 months later, went on decision , signed c.d. aves in second level.


on 17 may 2016, quim renewed contract year. still first-choice in 2016–17, when team returned top division after ten years.
