the danevirke 30 kilometres (19 mi) long overall, height varying between 3.6 , 6 metres (12 , 20 ft). during middle ages, structure reinforced palisades , masonry walls, , used danish kings gathering point danish military excursions, including series of crusader raids against slavs of south baltic. in particular, 12th-century king valdemar great reinforced parts of danevirke brick wall, enabled continued military use of strategically important structure. reinforced parts of structure consequently known in danish valdemarsmuren (lit: valdemar s wall).
