district history
establishing district

the f-m school district established in 1951, when independent fayetteville, manlius , 11 other smaller districts united. fayetteville high school , manlius high school remained separate until 1954, when manlius school became jr. high (7–8) whole district , fayetteville school became fayetteville-manlius high school (9–12). new fayetteville-manlius high school constructed in manlius , first opened in 1960. former fayetteville-manlius high school renamed current wellwood middle school in 1965. manlius high school became pleasant street elementary, closed in 1975, sold , church , daycare. time formed until present, district has been led 5 superintendents.

the district offices located directly west of high school, on route 173.


the oak tree symbol of f-m school district , heritage. 200-year-old oak stood in front of wellwood middle school until removed in 1970s. characteristics of tree reflected in values, vision, , ambition of fayetteville-manlius. tree steadfast, well-grounded, robust , distinguished entity on natural landscape. hornet school mascot, , came hornets nested in great oak tree. historical narrative given former teacher , assistant principal @ f-m high school, mr. platt wheeler:



on front lawn of wellwood monster, monster oak tree. has since been taken down. when taken down, ken phelps, principal of wellwood, had of smaller branches cut small parts. ham king, industrial arts teacher, had them finished off shellac , forth, , cut round pieces , given various people had been in district awhile , aware of went it. result of oak tree, name of yearbook determined oak leaves. and, @ time when there 1 junior high, name of junior high yearbook called acorn...so, out of oak tree came oak leaves, hornet s nest, acorns, alma mater, class rings, etc. these reflected result of oak tree.

the district consistently honored scholastic art , writing awards having 1 of best high school art programs in country. in 2006, students f-m high school received record number of national awards, including prestigious national american vision award.
the state-of-the art observatory , planetarium of facilities of kind on public high school campus.
the district consistently exceeds average state , national performances on sat. in addition, 99% of f-m students take exam @ least once. average scores class of 2010 follows:
