1936-built cessna c-34 airmaster @ blackpool (squires gate) airport in 1950
in middle of 1930s, great depression came end, u.s. economy began strengthen. news cessna aircraft company dwane wallace (clyde cessna s nephew graduated aeronautical engineer) decided assist uncle in building more modern airplanes. design of first airmaster credited wallace, , first flight of c-34 model in june 1935. not long after introduction of c-34, clyde cessna retired aircraft-building activity, leaving company nephew.
later models
the original airmaster, c-34, evolved more advanced versions of airmaster. c-37 had wider cabin, improved landing gear , electric flaps. c-38 had taller vertical tail, curved main gear legs , landing flap under fuselage. changes common both c-37 , c-38 included wider fuselages , landing gear along rubber engine mounts hold 145 hp (108 kw) warner super scarab engine. final revisions of c-34 c-145 , c-165, of 80 built. on these models, belly flaps added on c-38 removed , overall length of fuselage increased. difference between c-145 , c-165 engine horsepower, latter having upgraded 165 hp (123 kw) warner engine.

it beginning of world war ii airmaster line came end. welded tubular fuselage, fabric-covered body, extensive woodwork, wooden wings , radial engines, characteristic of 1930s-era aircraft technology, became expensive , slow produce. old-style aircraft replaced aircraft constructed aluminium strut braced wings first seen in cessna 120.
