hip haiti originated in private project started in 2001 jordan-reynolds, founded school in remote village of coco beach--in 2000 , daughter stephanie had accidentally crossed dominican republic, vacationing, haiti, , took interest in area while waiting permission re-enter dominican republic. jordan-reynolds professor @ auburn montgomery. school enrolls 3 hundred students in primary , secondary education, , employs 8 full-time teachers. supports medical clinic. in 2008, school accepted world food program s school feeding program, , began providing students 2 meals per day.
hip haiti established jordan-reynolds , daughter stephanie (a graduate of auburn montgomery, master s in african-american caribbean studies tulane university) non-profit aid in raising funds projects.
the vanilla project
the vanilla project started of vanilla farmer in costa rica. test crop grown , vines brought coco beach. villagers trained in growing crops, , until productive, sale of rainforest vanilla costa rica supports local economy.
earthquake relief
by chance, jordan-reynolds , daughter escaped near death during 2010 haiti earthquake; have checked now-destroyed hotel montana in port-au-prince decided, night before earthquake, go cap-haïtien instead pick supplies; because of minor glitch in plans caught last flight out of port-au-prince. since then, have been working collect money , supplies earthquake relief.
cocoa
the reynoldses started de la sol, soil , produce cocoa beans; 2013 had opened processing plant in northern haiti, employing 8 people , processing cocoa beans 650 farmers. company located in plaisance, in northern haiti. cocoa butter sold locally, while cocoa powder sold ice cream company in baltimore, taharka brothers.
