biography
early years (1942–1963)

gil born in salvador, industrial city in northeast of brazil, though spent of childhood in nearby ituaçu. ituaçu small town of fewer thousand, located in sertão, or countryside, of bahia. father, josé gil moreira, doctor; mother, claudina passos gil moreira, elementary school teacher. young boy, attended marist brothers school. gil remained in ituaçu until 9 years old, returning salvador secondary school.
