the title of baron mendip, of mendip in county of somerset, created in peerage of great britain in 1794 politician welbore ellis, remainder 3 eldest sons of sister anne ellis, wife of henry agar (which included james agar, 1st viscount clifden , charles agar, 1st earl of normanton). lord mendip died childless , succeeded according special remainder great-nephew second viscount clifden, became second baron mendip well.
