kfv co-founder walther bensemann established internationalen fc karlsruhe, first football team in south germany, in 1889. club became part of kfv in 1894. had hand in founding frankfurter kickers predecessor side eintracht frankfurt. well, bensemann established kicker, germany s first football magazine.

kfv 1 of germany s successful sides in years before first world war. club captured south german title 8 times 1901 1912, leading national final appearances in 1905, 1910, , 1912. kfv s championship earned under direction of english coach william townley, prominent figure in history of game in germany.

kfv figures in strange story of germany s first national championship in 1903 won vfb leipzig in 7:2 victory on dfc prague. karlruhers scheduled play semi-final match against prag in leipzig, cancelled travel plans when received telegram – allegedly german football association (deutscher fussball bund or german football association) – indicating game had been rescheduled. prag awarded win forfeit when opponents failed show, , made uncontested advance final in spite of vehement protests kfv. has never been discovered sent telegram , people karlsruhe still search day find responsible.

denied place in national final, karlsruhe did manage arrange challenge leipzig following year in match representing contest might have been, lost game 3–7.

kfv played key role in incomplete national final of 1904. beaten 1:6 britannia berlin in semi-final match played in berlin, karlsruhe protested result under league rules match have been played @ neutral venue. ultimately, dfb cancelled final , viktoria trophy not awarded year.

from 1908, club played in new südkreis-liga, won in 1910, 1911 , 1912. in 1909, phönix karlsruhe, known today karlsruher sc, brought city first national championship. kfv s win following year makes karlsruhe 1 of 3 cities in germany have been home 2 or more national football champions. others munich (fc bayern munich , tsv 1860 münchen) , berlin (union 92 berlin, bfc viktoria 1889, hertha bsc). while playing national team in 1912, kfv s gottfried fuchs scored 10 goals in contest against russia set german international match record still stands.

kfv made re-appearance after first world war, first in kreisliga südwest , in bezirksliga württemberg-baden, gruppe baden capture of league championship in 1926. while went on dominate division, team not able make way out of south german league playoffs , onto national stage.

in 1933, karlsruher fv took play in gauliga baden, 1 of sixteen first division leagues established in re-organization of german football under third reich. club relegated in 1937, made prompt return top flight after one-year absence. sent down again in 1941 came play 1943–44 season, after rump of division struggled through 1 more truncated season allied forces rolled through germany in last days of world war ii.

postwar play

kfv played in oberliga süd finished dead last, 5 points in of rivals phönix karlsruhe. not relegated league being re-structured, club played season in oberliga süd, , time both karlsruhe sides relegated, although fv did manage finish ahead of phönix.

karlsruher fv emerged in 2nd oberliga süd in 1951–52 , played second division football there until being relegated in 1957. club won 2 titles in amateurliga nordbaden (iii) in 1952 , 1974 after team fell tier v kreisliga play before being disqualified league operations in october 2004, after collapsing financially.

revival

the club returned amateur league football in 2007, finishing 9th in kreisklasse c, staffel 3 – kreis karlsruhe (x), lowest division in north baden region, in 2007–08. 2008–09 season proved disastrous club, coming last in division 1 win , 21 loses in 24 games. after tenth place in 2009–10, in 2010–11, side finished l5th , last once more, 2 wins, draw , 27 defeats , 127 goals conceded. club came last in division once more in 2011–12 conceded less 100 goals in season.
