the water quality of lake varies during various seasons – summer, pre–monsoon, monsoon , post–monsoon – depth , width of lake mouth varies causing dynamic situation of mixing , circulation of waters. resultant salinity variation , (dissolved oxygen) affects primary production, plankton, biodiversity , fisheries in lake. salinity values vary 0 during monsoon 52,000 ppm (hyper saline) during post , pre–monsoon seasons. adjustment wide variation difficult sessile , sedentary species in lake. however, euryhaline species still dwell in lake. benthic or bottom habitat of lagoon classified 3 zones. southern zone, first zone, dominated sand admixture of mud. second zone @ northern region wholly muddy. third zone sand , mud in equal parts overgrown patches of weeds , reported rich in benthic biodiversity. toxicity levels of heavy metals such magnesium, lead, zinc, nickel, cadmium, aluminum , copper , chemicals such ammonia, sulphate , fluoride in lake within permissible limits.
