Šalata urbanized in , mid-20th century following rapid expansion of zagreb. urbanization can explained prime location on slopes of medvednica mountain , proximity ban jelačić square. nonetheless, neighborhood retains environmentally friendly image, housing botanical garden fran kušan in zagreb, owned faculty of pharmacy , biochemistry of university of zagreb. garden located @ end of quiet schrottova street. although 24,000 m (5.9 acres) in area, garden contains on 2,000 plant species.


Šalata s mass transit consists of 4 bus lines: numbers 106, 201, 226 , 238. lines run along grškovićeva street , bijenička road ruđer bošković institute. @ point 106 , 226 continue northwest towards mirogoj , rest continue northeast along bijenička road. southeastern part remains away bus routes, city of zagreb administration deems Šalata badly connected rest of city, , plans add more bus lines. neighborhood not have tram lines, inhabitants have either descend staircases nearby arterial roads, or take bus kaptol near ban jelačić square reach nearest tram stations. on january 31, 2009, minibus line 204 assigned Šalata. runs on circular route between kvaternik square , eastern parts of neighborhood.
