nine main access points lake available. on west 3 roads las vegas metropolitan area. access northwest interstate 15 through valley of fire state park , moapa river indian reservation overton arm of lake.


the lake divided several bodies. large body closest hoover dam boulder basin. narrow channel, once known boulder canyon , known narrows, connects boulder basin virgin basin east. virgin river , muddy river empty overton arm, connected northern part of virgin basin. next basin east temple basin, , following gregg basin, connected temple basin virgin canyon. when lake levels high enough, section of lake farther upstream gregg basin flooded, includes grand wash bay, pearce ferry bay , launch ramp, , 55 miles (89 km) of colorado river within lower grand canyon, extending foot of 240 mile rapids (north of peach springs, arizona). in addition, 2 small basins, muddy river inlet , virgin river basin, flooded when lake high enough these 2 rivers flow lake. of february 2015, these basins remain dry.


jagged mountain ranges surround lake, offering scenic backdrop, @ sunset. 2 mountain ranges within view of boulder basin, river mountains, oriented northwest southeast , muddy mountains, oriented west northeast. bonelli peak lies east of virgin basin.
