the city responsible maintenance of numerous sports , recreation fields, including 40 grass/sand/soil sports fields, 5 fieldturf fields, 35 ball diamonds, several all-weather surfaces, bowling green, croquet/bocce court, , cricket pitch. city operates percy perry stadium , poirier sport & leisure complex. privately owned planet ice features 4 additional ice rinks, , more rinks found throughout tri-cities.


the city manages 4 all-age community centres (centennial, pinetree, poirier, summit), , 2 senior community centres (dogwood pavilion, glen pine pavilion).


baseball – coquitlam reds of b.c. premier baseball league play home games @ mundy park; reds famous alumnus former major league all-star , national league mvp larry walker. coquitlam home coquitlam little league, has been part of little league international since 1955; coquitlam finished 3rd @ 1984 little league world series. in 2008, coquitlam hosted junior league canadian championships.


basketball – coquitlam home tri city youth basketball association; formed in 1999, serves tri-cities on 1,400 players grades 2 9. program part of steve nash youth basketball program administered basketball bc. open both boys , girls, , operates out of school gyms across tri-cities area.


cricket – coquitlam home windies cricket club. club consists of on 40 members 3 adult teams playing in premier, second & fifth divisions. club affiliated british columbia mainland cricket league , games played @ mackin park. youth kanga cricket program formed aim of promoting , growing game of cricket in coquitlam. superstrikers cricket team open boys , girls aged 6 – 16.


football – coquitlam home coquitlam minor football association, member of vancouver mainland football league. cmfa players range 6 18 years of age, , play against teams lower mainland , vancouver island. coquitlam home of tri-city bulldogs of canadian junior football league 1991 2004.


golf – in addition courses in neighbouring communities in tri-cities, coquitlam home several golf facilities. vancouver golf club, located in southwest coquitlam, has hosted 2 major lpga tour events 1 senior pga tour event. westwood plateau golf & country club 1 of highest rated golf courses in canada. both westwood plateau golf academy , eaglequest golf centre designed executive learning courses.


hockey – founded in 2001, coquitlam express of british columbia hockey league play @ poirier sport & leisure complex. coquitlam home coquitlam minor hockey association, aaa club in greater vancouver area in pacific coast division, 1000 members initiation hockey 1 juvenile.


lacrosse – coquitlam home coquitlam adanacs of western lacrosse association, play @ poirier sport & leisure complex, , coquitlam minor lacrosse association. in july 2008, percy perry stadium hosted 2008 ilf under-19 world lacrosse championships.


motorsports – coquitlam formerly home westwood motorsport park, canada s first purpose-built permanent road course, located on westwood plateau. first race held in 1959, , on years hosted many different professional series including formula atlantic , trans-am. notable drivers have raced @ westwood include formula 1 world champion keke rosberg, indianapolis 500 winners bobby rahal , danny sullivan, gilles villeneuve , michael andretti. track closed in 1990 due encroaching development, , racing moved mission raceway park.


softball – coquitlam home coquitlam minor softball association. association consists of 300 registered players, predominantly females between ages of 5 – 19 years of age. of games held @ mundy park, riverview park, , hillcrest park. cmsa home coquitlam classics competitive rep program.


soccer – city home 2 major soccer associations, including coquitlam metro-ford soccer club has on 2500 players range under-5 adult teams including women s premier team plays in pacific coast soccer league, , north coquitlam united soccer club.


swimming – city centre aquatic complex indoor aquatic centre built in town centre area @ cost of $8.2 million , opened in 1994. ccac features 50m olympic size swimming pool, wave pool, waterslide, 3,000-square-foot (280 m) fitness centre, , physiotherapy clinic. chimo aquatic , fitness centre opened in 2008 in austin heights area @ cost of $19.5 million, replacing older chimo pool nearby. cafc features 25m swimming pool, 20m lap pool, leisure pool, , fitness room. coquitlam operates 3 outdoor swimming pools (eagle ridge, rochester, spani), 2 outdoor wading pools (blue mountain, mackin), , 3 outdoor splash pads (blue mountain, panorama, town centre).


track , field – coquitlam home coquitlam cheetahs track , field club, train @ percy perry stadium, named after former coach died in 2005.
