on april 21, 2008, stm unveiled contactless smart card called opus (a word phonetically includes french word puce, generic french word chip used in type smart card ) means of fare payment. in preparation new step in montreal s public transportation network, turnstiles incorporate reader , automated vending machines had been installed in metro stations; buses had been fitted new fare boxes incorporate card reader, in order ensure uniformity of methods of payment across montreal s transit network , of suburbs.


costs stm related project approximately $138 million, compared original estimated cost of $100 million. project supposed implemented in 2006.
