on september 17, 2016, whilst on route las palmas, fan belt air conditioning unit on deck 16 overheated , triggered alarms, subsequently caused crew alert. passengers asked return staterooms , await further instructions. incident investigated, , determined relatively small, did not affect safety aboard, crew stood down. vessel continued steaming toward las palmas on time arrival.

an emerald princess crew member died in unfortunate accident following failure of gas cylinder, took place while ship alongside @ port chalmers, new zealand. first reports indicated incident happened during technical work on hydraulic launching system on tender vessel.
