Prelude First Battle of Yeonpyeong



the disputed maritime border between north , south korea in west sea:

     a: united nations command-created northern limit line, 1953

     b: north korea-declared inter-korean mdl , 1999 locations of specific islands reflected in configuration of each maritime boundary, including

1–yeonpyeong island
2–baengnyeong island
3–daecheong island









on 11 june, south korean navy began forcibly responding continued north korean crossings of nll beginning bumping offensive , using boats physically push aside north koreans. 4 north korean boats damaged, 2 seriously, while 3 of south korean boats suffered damage hulls. north koreans retaliated on 12 june attempting own bumping offensive outmanoeuvred south koreans.


the north korean navy deployed 3 torpedo boats next day, prompting deployment of 2 pohang-class corvettes south koreans on 14 june. time, north koreans patrol boats had crossed nll 52 times , fishing boats had crossed 62 times.
