miles drafted houston astros in 19th round of 1995 amateur draft. played in astros minor league system through 2000, making high class-a+ kissimmee cobras in 2000, hit .292 in 75 games. member of midwest league all-star team in 1999.


chicago white sox

he selected chicago white sox in minor league portion of rule v draft in 2000. played double-a birmingham barons in 2001-2002. in 2002, valuable player of double-a southern league while hitting .322 barons. promoted triple-a charlotte knights in 2003 , international league rookie of year. made major league debut on september 11, 2003 against minnesota twins pinch hitter , recorded first hit on september 18, against minnesota. in 8 games white sox, hit had 4 hits (3 doubles) in 12 at-bats.


colorado rockies

miles traded colorado rockies on december 2, 2003 juan uribe. appeared in 134 games rockies , finished fourth in voting 2004 national league rookie of year, while hitting .293 in 134 games.

on august 31, foul ball hit miles struck teammate juan encarnación in face while in on-deck circle, , ended encarnación s career. encarnación suffered multiple fractures left eye socket , injury left eye , missed remainder of 2007 season. injury regarded cardinals head team physician, dr. george paletta, worst injury d ever seen face on baseball player. paletta said eye socket crushed on impact, comparing injured area disintegration of egg shell or ice cream cone, , optic nerve had sustained severe trauma. paletta said eyeball had not been ruptured.


miles re-signed cardinals one-year deal, january 4, 2008, after non-tender , short free-agency status in december 2007.


on july 20, 2008, miles got first walk-off hit, 1-out grand slam beat san diego padres, 9–5.


chicago cubs

on december 31, 2008, miles signed two-year deal chicago cubs. primary backup infielder second baseman mike fontenot, shortstop ryan theriot , third baseman aramis ramírez, after losing starting job @ second fontenot during spring training.


oakland/cincinnati/st. louis

on december 3, 2009, miles traded along jake fox oakland athletics jeff gray , 2 minor league prospects. on february 1, 2010, again traded along player named later cincinnati reds willy taveras , adam rosales. released on april 14, after being designated assignment @ end of spring training.


on april 27, 2010, miles signed minor league deal return cardinals. after brief stop in aaa, rejoined major league roster.

on february 7, 2011, miles signed minor league deal los angeles dodgers invitation spring training. made opening day roster. had first home run dodger , first in on 530 at-bats [over 2 years] vs minnesota twins starter brian duensing @ target field on june 28, 2011. miles played in 136 games dodgers, of career, due injuries juan uribe , casey blake. hit .275 17 doubles. after not signing teams 2012, re-signed dodgers on minor league contract on may 11. played in 18 games in aaa albuquerque isotopes, hitting .235.


miles announced retirement on june 13, 2012.
