johnny paul penry convicted of october 1979 rape , stabbing of 22-year-old pamela moseley carpenter (sister of washington redskins kicker mark moseley). penry, had been released prison 3 months earlier after serving 2 years of five-year sentence rape, forced way carpenter s home , held pocket knife throat. while struggling, carpenter managed grab pair of scissors , stab penry, able disarm her. dragged bedroom proceeded rape , stab in chest scissors, fatally injuring her.
