symptoms of parasite infection raw fish: clonorchis sinensis (a trematode/fluke), anisakis (a nematode/roundworm) , diphyllobothrium (cestode/tapeworm), have gastrointestinal, otherwise distinct, symptoms.


diphyllobothriasis can last decades if untreated. infections asymptomatic. manifestations may include abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, vomiting , weight loss. vitamin b12 deficiency subsequent megaloblastic anemia may occur, has not several decades in d. latum infections, possibly because of improved nutrition. in 1 test, half of ingested vitamin absorbed d. latum in otherwise healthy patients, while 80-100% absorbed worm in patients anemia. not known why anemia occurs in cases not others. massive infections may result in intestinal obstruction. migration of proglottids can cause cholecystitis or cholangitis.
