van der merwe selected in south africa team 2004 u-19 cricket world cup, played 5 matches, scoring 129 runs , taking 3 wickets. following tournament on 2 years before made first-class debut , van der merwe has admitted didn t take things , partying time .


in august 2008 van der merwe selected south africa academy play against bangladesh equivalents, in second of 5 match series scored 79 70 balls , took 6/52.
