the battle took place near tiberias in present-day israel. battlefield, near town of hittin, had chief geographic feature double hill (the horns of hattin ) beside pass through northern mountains between tiberias , road acre east. darb al-hawarnah road, built romans, served main east-west passage between jordan fords, sea of galilee , mediterranean coast.
