basic indoor venues may adapted gymnasiums, can accommodate high jump competitions , short track events. full-size indoor arenas (i.e. equipped host events world indoor championships) bear similarities outdoor equivalents. typically, central area surrounded 200-metre oval track 4 8 lanes. track can banked @ turns allow athletes run around radius more comfortably. have second running track going straight across field area, parallel straights of main circuit. track used 60 metres , 60 metres hurdles events, held exclusively indoors.


another common adaptation 160-yard track (11 laps mile) fits common basketball court sized arena. quite popular when races held @ imperial distances, gradually phased out different organizations in 1970s , 1980s. examples of configuration include millrose games @ madison square garden, , sunkist invitational formerly held in los angeles sports arena.
