the state senate approved same-sex marriage legislation on march 23, 2009 , governor jim douglas threatened veto it. on april 3, state house passed amended version of bill 94–52, several votes shy of veto-proof two-thirds majority. on april 6, 2009, senate approved amendments made house , governor vetoed legislation promised. on april 7, 2009, senate overrode veto 23–5 vote , house overrode 100–49.
