hoping keep slim playoff hopes alive, jets went home week 17 afc east rematch miami dolphins. after scoreless first quarter, new york took flight in second quarter quarterback brett favre completed 13-yard touchdown pass wide receiver laveranues coles (with failed pat). dolphins strike former jets quarterback chad pennington completing 27-yard touchdown pass wide receiver ted ginn, jr., along rookie defensive end phillip merling returning interception 25 yards touchdown. new york close out half kicker jay feely got 28-yard field goal.


in third quarter, jets regained lead running leon washington got 10-yard touchdown run (followed favre s 2-point conversion pass wide receiver jerricho cotchery). however, miami replied pennington s 20-yard touchdown pass tight end anthony fasano. in fourth quarter, dolphins pull away kicker dan carpenter nailed 48-yard field goal. new york tried comeback, miami s defense stopped attempt.


with disappointing finish, jets season ended @ 9–7. result, head coach eric mangini fired.
