the hospital county asylum nottinghamshire, , used military hospital during world war august 1918 october 1919, care shell-shocked soldiers. built replace sneinton asylum. foundation stone laid on 25 july 1899. new building — designed architect e. purnell hooley, better known inventor of tarmac — 2 stories high, cost £147,000 , had accommodation 452 patients (226 of each sex). 130 acres (0.53 km) surrounding hospital cost £6,800. officially opened 24 july 1902 lady elinor denison. in 1913 extensions made 148 patients, cost £29,833. in 1920, charlie chaplin admitted saxondale hospital suffering depression. in 1932, 2 further blocks erected, each accommodate 50 female patients. in 1955, 2 further villas built, 1 accommodate 36 females , other 36 males. hospital closed in 1987 , partly demolished prior redevelopment.


a woman alleged in june 2014 jimmy savile lifted skirt when @ disco @ hospital , aged 14. local resident rather patient. savile had fundraising association saxondale hospital 1972 1980s. official report on incident stated, there no reason doubt gave honest , truthful account of incident recalled it.
