the jets started quarterback brett favre against miami dolphins team sporting new starting quarterback , former jets starting quarterback chad pennington. favre got jets on scoreboard first in first quarter play-action pass found jerricho cotchery @ 10-yard line en route 56-yard touchdown. however, mike nugent sprained thigh on following kickoff, , when attempted , missed 32-yard field goal attempt, nugent brought out of game. miami responded, chad pennington marching dolphins down 6-yard line. there, pennington connected anthony fasano 5-yard touchdown, tying game. on following drive jets, coach eric mangini, faced possibility of missing 40-yard field goal if allowed uncertain mike nugent kick ball, opted favre continue on 4th down , 13 yards. favre, under pressure, threw high ball , rookie chansi stuckey jumped catch in end zone, giving jets 13–7 lead. rather put nugent out field pat, mangini opted go 2 points, option failed.


in 3rd quarter, favre brought jets red zone, moving them 6-yard line. there, favre handed off ball thomas jones, ran in touchdown. along point mike nugent, jets had 20–7 lead. due miscommunication, chad pennington forced use 2 time-outs in 4th quarter. late in 4th quarter, pennington moved miami down field, including connecting on 14-yard pass 4th-and-7 @ midfield. pennington completed 11-yard touchdown pass david martin 3:27 remaining, cutting jets lead 6 points. jets, ran clock down two-minute warning, went three-and-out on drive, giving ball miami @ 34-yard line 1:53 remaining. pennington moved team down field, getting 18-yard line 18 seconds on clock. on 3rd-and-10 18-yard line, pennington attempted throw ted ginn, jr. in of end zone, intercepted darrelle revis, sealing six-point win jets.


with win, jets began 2008 season @ 1–0.


brett favre, in jets debut, completed 15 of 22 passes 194 yards , 2 touchdowns (with passer rating of 125.9).
