competing in metro atlantic athletic conference (maac), college fields 19 athletic teams. of sports teams known peacocks. until recently, women s teams known peahens; saint peter s ncaa division institution mascot. baseball, softball, , soccer teams play @ joseph j. jaroschak field, in lincoln park. other teams play @ victor r. yanitelli, s.j. recreational life center, located on campus. school uses jersey city armory events. on june 14, 2007, announced football team disbanded.

basketball has long been popular sport @ college. under legendary coach don kennedy, men s team gained national attention defeating heavily favored , nationally ranked duke university in 1968 nit quarterfinals, en route fourth-place finish.

saint peter s has won maac men s basketball championship , accompanying automatic bid ncaa tournament 3 times (1991, 1995, , 2011) , has appeared in national invitation tournament (nit) 12 times (1957, 1958, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1975, 1976, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1987, , 1989). women s basketball team has won 7 maac championships , automatic bids ncaa tournament (1982, 1992, 1993, 1997, 1999, 2000, , 2002); won maac championship in 1983 , 1984, years when maac champion did not receive automatic ncaa tournament berth. in 2017, saint peter s won collegeinsider.com postseason tournament (cit) championship defeating texas a&m-corpus christi in tournament final. saint peter s first national title in school history.

in recent years basketball program has seen resurgence, owing success of keydren kee-kee clark 05. in 2004 , 2005, led nation in points scored per game, becoming eighth player repeat ncaa division scoring champion. on march 4, 2006, clark became seventh ncaa player score more 3,000 points in career; on next day, passed hersey hawkins become sixth-leading scorer of time. @ time of final game on march 6, 2006, clark held ncaa all-time record 3-point shots, 435. second fourth-year student , forward on basketball team, george jefferson, died on june 21, 2005, due undiagnosed heart condition. in 2011, saint peter s won maac tournament make peacocks first march madness appearance since 1995.

john dunne named 14th head coach in saint peter’s college men’s basketball history on may 24, 2006. on november 25, 2007, peacocks defeated rutgers university 65–58 @ jersey city armory. victory saint peter s first win against big east conference opponent since defeating seton hall university @ meadowlands in 1995.

the men s soccer team has enjoyed success of late. peacocks crowned 2003 maac men s soccer champions after defeating loyola college (maryland), 2–1. in 2006 peacocks returned maac men s soccer championship finals succumbed fairfield university, 1–0. peacocks again returned maac men s soccer championship finals in 2007, fell loyola college, 1–0. in 2007, men s team earned place in 2007 ncaa men s soccer tournament first at-large nomination in school history. peacocks met university of virginia in first round of play @ charlottesville, virginia, losing 3–1. in 2010, men s soccer team earned second maac championship title defeating iona college 2–1.

the women s bowling team 1 of successful programs @ school, winning first championship title in 2009.

the golf team won back-to-back maac team championships in 2014 , 2015. in 2016, golfer nicholas dilio won maac individual title. enjoy access prestigious liberty national golf club on beautiful jersey city waterfront – home barclays 2009, first stage of pga tour playoffs fedex cup. liberty national noted unique course because of proximity , panoramic views of both statue of liberty , manhattan.
