early career

born in máximo paz, constitución department, santa fe, vergini vélez sársfield youth graduate, appeared reserves in lower leagues. in june 2009 signed two-year deal paraguayan side club olimpia, , made professional debut on 13 september, in 0–2 home loss against club libertad.


vergini scored first goal on 7 november, netting second in 2–1 home win against sportivo luqueño. finished first professional year 12 appearances , 1 goal, side finished fifth.


on 1 september 2010 vergini loaned lega pro prima divisione team verona, in one-year deal. appeared in 15 matches, scoring goal against bassano virtus.


newell s old boys

on 26 july 2011 vergini signed newell s old boys. made debut club on 2 september, playing full 90 minutes in 0–0 home draw against colón de santa fe.


an undisputed starter la lepra, vergini appeared in 32 matches , scored 3 goals in 2011–12 (against olimpo, banfield , unión santa fe). again ever-present in following campaign, side reached semi-finals of 2013 copa libertadores.


estudiantes

on 1 august 2013, after being linked possible move fc barcelona, vergini joined estudiantes de la plata. appeared in 17 matches, scoring 1 goal (against godoy cruz on 16 november).


sunderland

on 20 january 2014, vergini secured loan move premier league side sunderland remainder of 2013–14 season. made league debut on 8 february, replacing fabio borini in first half against hull city after dismissal of regular centre-back wes brown.


vergini made first start on 22 february away arsenal. unused substitute sunderland lost 2014 football league cup final 3–1 manchester city @ wembley stadium on 2 march.


after several games playing in central defence, gus poyet slotted vergini right position due injuries. had great , solid performances , helped sunderland avoid relegation finish 14th in premier league.


on 7 august 2014, re-signed sunderland on season-long loan 2014–15 campaign, deal becoming permanent two-year contract after black cats avoided relegation.


vergini particularly notable spectacular own goal against southampton during premier league game in october 2014, volleying goal edge of penalty area past own goalkeeper vito mannone. first goal in 8–0 away defeat black cats.


getafe (loan)

on 16 july 2015 vergini loaned spanish la liga side getafe cf in season-long deal view permanent transfer.


boca juniors

in june 2016, vergini returned home country , signed boca juniors, undisclosed fee.
