developed argentinean national atomic energy commission (cnea) & invap, carem simplified pressurized water reactor (pwr) designed have electrical output of 100mw or 25mw. integral reactor – coolant system inside reactor vessel – entire plant operates @ same pressure.


the fuel uranium oxide 235
u enrichment of 3.4%. primary coolant system uses natural circulation, there no pumps required, provides inherent safety against core meltdown, in accident situations. integral design minimizes risk of loss-of-coolant accidents (loca). annual refueling required. currently, first reactor of type being built near city of zárate, in northern part of buenos aires province.
