a native of gilan, gharib shah descendant of kia dynasty, , original name sultan kalanjar, when in 1629/30 rebelled against safavid rule in home-province, took name of adil shah, while called gharib shah enemies. before gharib shah rebelled, had received blessing of pir shams-i gulgiluva i.


during rebellion, joined various descendants of dynasties of mazandaran , gilan. after having declared himself ruler of gilan, occupied provinces 2 major cities, lahijan , rasht. when gharib s rebellion spread mazandaran, rebels sacked shah abbas warehouses, selling off royal silk. 2 hundred kharvari lost or stolen.


according tarikh-i gilan, abd al-fattah fumani, gilan s inhabitants lost on 300,000 tumans, due rebellion. consequently, gharib shah defeated group of safavid governors, included saru taqi, governor of gilan , mazandaran. gharib shah, along 2,000 of supporters, executed @ isfahan. however, supporter of gharib shah claimed brother, rebelled in mazandaran.
