2005 season

seat , rydell continued in world touring car championship (wtcc) when replaced etcc 2005. finished fifth in championship, winning race 2 @ silverstone.

2006 season

he continued seat 2006, finishing seventh, without win.

2007

rydell won gt1 class of 2007 le mans 24 hours, sharing aston martin dbr9 david brabham , darren turner.

rydell lost seat drive 2007, , instead drove aston martin dbr9 prodrive team in gt championship having worked team when using ferrari s in 2004.

rydell raced in 2007 24 hours of le mans david brabham , darren turner , won in gt1 class.

on wtcc weekend in anderstorp, sweden, rydell returned category fourth driver cheverolet team , local hero guest driver. won second race of day, ahead of team-mates nicola larini , alain menu.

prior last event of 2007 wtcc calendar in macau, rydell chosen seat sport team race them additional driver team take home @ least 1 of main championships, either driver s championship via seat s yvan muller winning, or manufacturer s championship. weekend though did not set off planned, due rickard starting 14th on race 1 grid , yvan muller started 2nd behind eventual winner of first race alain menu in rml run cheverolet. rickard finished 11th in first race yvan muller leading 8 of 9 laps of race, due fuel pressure problem muller s race weekend ended on 8th lap before able pits. during second race rickard had better race first finished in 6th, unfortunately efforts not enough seat clinch manufacturer s crowns, championship went reigning manufacturer s champions bmw.

2008 season

rydell re-signed seat 1 of drivers in 5 strong driver line assault on 2008 wtcc season. rickard finished fifth in final standings, winning once @ estoril , once @ okayama.

2009 season

rickard raced seat yet again in 2009, winning @ puebla , finishing seventh overall in final standings.

2011 season

rickard rydell returns racing after year commentator of stcc swedish tv. signed chevrolet motorsport sweden team cruze joining team teammate viktor hallrup developmental driver team in second season team, first season being lacetti. rickard came in booster driver cheverolet sweden gain results team developmental driver still not speed top runners. rickard won title* @ last race of season @ mantorp 2 points frederik ekblom.

this under debate rydell passing under yellows not present till turn 2, volkswagen (vw) team biogas.se brought in former stcc champion thed bjork, , slowed down before turn 1 letting 3 cars past before first yellow flag light. @ present vw have appealed , failed 3 times fourth might soon.

this rydell second national touring car title after btcc championship in 1998, although won bathurst 1000 year last touring car title before return form in 2011.

next year defending stcc title however, frederik ekblom not contesting in stcc has signed volvo polestar in silhouette touring car championship run tta based on volvo c30 chassis , many teams , successful swedish drivers, i.e. jan flash nilsson , richard göransson [1], stcc bmw drivers in 2011 season.

2013 season

rydell joined nika racing 2013 fia wtcc race of china drive chevrolet cruze 1.6t.

in 2005 poll run motorsport magazine, rydell voted 18th greatest touring car driver of time.

rydell announced retirement motorsport in 2016.
