in winter of 1928–29 noether accepted invitation moscow state university, continued working p. s. alexandrov. in addition carrying on research, taught classes in abstract algebra , algebraic geometry. worked topologists, lev pontryagin , nikolai chebotaryov, later praised contributions development of galois theory.

although politics not central life, noether took keen interest in political matters and, according alexandrov, showed considerable support russian revolution. happy see soviet advances in fields of science , mathematics, considered indicative of new opportunities made possible bolshevik project. attitude caused problems in germany, culminating in eviction pension lodging building, after student leaders complained of living marxist-leaning jewess .

noether planned return moscow, effort received support alexandrov. after left germany in 1933 tried gain chair @ moscow state university through soviet education ministry. although effort proved unsuccessful, corresponded during 1930s, , in 1935 made plans return soviet union. meanwhile, brother fritz accepted position @ research institute mathematics , mechanics in tomsk, in siberian federal district of russia, after losing job in germany, , subsequently executed during great purge.
