victoria island


originally designated upscale residential area, failing infrastructure , overcrowding in old business district on lagos island , lax zoning enforcement in victoria island led mass migration of businesses on last twenty-five years. today, victoria island 1 of nigeria s busiest centres of banking , commerce, major nigerian , international corporations headquartered on island.


the island has continued rapidly develop , along ikoyi, favourite spot nigerians , foreigners live , play.


however influx of banks , other commercial ventures has changed formerly serene atmosphere of island. longtime residents complain increase in traffic , influx of street traders cater local bank employees , businessmen.


a new project being developed chagoury group includes eko atlantic city, located next victoria island. project being built on reclaimed land has been lost coastal erosion.
