singapore bus service (sbs) formed in 1973 merger of 3 private bus companies. government-sanctioned merger undertaken improve service standards of bus transport system.


with shift towards creation of multi-modal transport companies, singapore bus service (1978) pte ltd changed name delgro corporation in november 1997, , expand network overseas london. in addition, singapore bus service company name retained.


in november 2001, renamed sbs transit when company formally became multi-modal transport operator impending opening of sengkang lrt line , north east mrt line.


on 29 march 2003, delgro corporation merged comfort group form comfortdelgro. sbs transit remains subsidiary of merged company.


in 2003, sbs transit started operating north east line of mass rapid transit network in addition existing bus operations.


on 29 august 2011, sbs transit given operation license downtown line, started on 22 december 2013.
