with advance of czechoslovak legion (fighting white army against bolsheviks) towards yekaterinburg, fears of potential attempt liberate them grew, , local bolshevik leaders, after consulting leadership in moscow, decided execute former imperial family. in hours of july 17, 1918, former imperial family—tsar nicholas alexandrovich, tsarina alexandra feodorovna, grand duchess olga, grand duchess tatiana, grand duchess maria, grand duchess anastasia , tsarevich alexei—were taken basement of ipatiev house , murdered being shot , bayoneted. czechoslovak legions captured city less week later.
