tropical storm bret formed in bay of campeche on june 28 , made landfall in veracruz next morning. storm damaged hundreds of homes , caused flooding killed 2 people.
hurricane cindy formed in gulf of mexico on july 4. thought tropical storm, cindy made landfall in louisiana on july 5 minimal hurricane, dropping five in (130 mm) of rain, spawning several tornadoes, flooding coastal areas including coden, alabama, , killing 3 people. cindy upgraded hurricane in post-storm analysis.

on july 5, hurricane dennis formed in eastern caribbean; crossed grenada before intensifying category 4 hurricane, strongest ever recorded in july pressure of 930 mbar (hpa). dennis struck cuba @ full force, made final landfall on florida panhandle. hurricane killed 89 people (mostly in haiti) , caused $4–$6 billion (2005 usd, $4.91 billion – $7.36 billion 2017 usd) in damage in cuba , united states.
soon thereafter, hurricane emily formed in atlantic on july 11. entered caribbean sea , intensified category 4 storm, breaking dennis s record july intensity when pressure reached 929 mbar (hpa). emily briefly reached category 5 intensity—the earliest such storm ever recorded in atlantic. emily crossed yucatán peninsula @ category 4 strength before hitting tamaulipas @ category 3 strength. emily killed @ least 14 people on course of path. estimated $400 million (2005 usd; $491 million 2017 usd) in damage reported.
tropical storm franklin formed off bahamas on july 18. storm moved northeast , became extratropical off coast of atlantic canada without ever having threatened land.
tropical storm gert followed after on july 24. gert struck veracruz near emily had hit few days before; 1,000 people evacuated fear of flooding, no damage or deaths reported.
