it founded in 1773 copper mining factory. during 19th century, development driven discovery of richest gold deposits in urals. average annual extraction of gold miass region 640 kilograms (1,410 lb). in mid-19th century, volume of gold mining went down, , development of miass slowed. town status granted miass in 1923. in 1941, automobile factory (which still operates uralaz) built.
