geology

jervis bay drowned river valley , formed 15,000 years ago, @ end of last ice age. bay took on present appearance around 4000 bc after sea levels had risen 120 metres (390 ft), , sand dune barriers created southern peninsula. of rock in jervis bay part of sydney basin sandstone formation, 280-225 million years old, although lower areas overlain tertiary-era sediments.
