changes public transport

to meet increasing number of commuters in singapore, land transport authority had exercise on new changes on time.


rail

lta responsible development of rapid transit system , expansion of rail network. aims double rail network 2030. since 2008, lta has increased length of singapore s rail network 138 km 180 km opening of boon lay extension in 2009, circle line 2009 2011 , circle line extension in 2012. downtown line, thomson-east coast line underway towards completion, cross island line , jurong region line under planning.


half-height platform screen doors installed in 36 elevated stations in 2012 safety of passengers , reduce delays in train service track intrusions. hvls fans installed @ elevated stations starting 1 june 2012 , ending on 6 january 2013.


in addition, year time upgrading works underway stations , existing train lines. railway sleepers, re-signaling, third rail , propulsion systems changed, wi-fi, noise barriers @ ten places, escalator announcements , care zones implemented.


lta has plans install anti-climb barriers , cctv cameras @ portals such bishan, redhill, choa chu kang, bukit batok, bukit gombak, kallang, expo, lentor , marsiling prevent intruders collision or tracks.


free travel implemented since 24 june 2013, travel smart initiative. applicable if passengers exiting station before 7.45am.


bus

lta took on role of central bus network planner 2009, working communities , bus operators, sbs transit (sbst) , smrt buses (smrtb), identify areas bus improvements , shift focus placing commuter @ centre , taking holistic approach in planning bus network, taking consideration development in rapid transit system (rts) network , other transport infrastructure. meant feedbacks, , changes under monthly updates, has been brought through bus services enhancement programme. under bsep, 80 new services being introduced , 1000 buses being added on 5 years.


quality of service (qos) standards have been tightened reduce waiting time , reduce crowding. now, increased loads run every 10 minutes or less during weekday peak hours in 2015. feeder bus services have become more frequent too, 95% of bus services running @ intervals of 10 minutes or less during weekday peak periods, tightened 85%.


road projects

investment in road projects ensures economy ably supported strong , ever-improving transport infrastructure , coordinated system motorists enjoy safer , more pleasant journey. 1 such project introduction of parking guidance system (pgs) in city , harbourfront area guide drivers nearest parking facility available parking spaces, reducing need vehicles cruise around find empty parking spaces.


as part of investment in road projects, lta expanding emas signages , upgrading oldest emas signages in expressways.


to improve road safety, lta implemented variety of road engineering measures, such adding pedestrian crossing lines enhanced dash markings, traffic calming markings , pedestrian crossing ahead road markings in more locations in 2009. speed signs , electronic signs displaying speed of passing vehicle, introduced motorists more aware of speeds , more keep speed limit. road studs flash in tandem green man signal @ traffic junctions installed @ more locations alert motorists stop crossing pedestrians.
